Ardita Fetish Fashion, the European label pushing the latex design envelope with its advanced appliqué techniques, tops the fashion show bill at Amsterdam’s upcoming Dominatrix party on March 9.
The label, launched barely two years ago by Netherlands-based Italian designer Barbara Sandri, specialises in highly decorative, hand-cut appliqués laminated onto single colour backgrounds to create colourful, complex, large-scale textured effects.
Ardita was the cover story of our September 2011 edition, and has already made a big impression during its short life.
Also in the March fashion show is popular Paris label HMSlatex, the subject of our February cover. Designer Sophie Richardoz will showcase her new Deco Collection, much praised for its use of plus-size models like Scarlet Saint to promote the new styles created by Sophie and her assistant Clementine.
Joining these two on the Dominatrix catwalk will be up-and-coming London label Pandora Deluxe. The label will be bringing its distinctive look to Amsterdam after plaudits for its pop-art and superheroine-influenced collection at the German Fetish Ball and Torture Garden last year.
Making up the party’s catwalk fashion foursome will be Rotterdam’s long-established fetish store SublieM, which will be showcasing its new DD-Mistress range of latex for women.
The Dominatrix party, which is expected to draw a crowd of around a thousand, takes place once again at Boudoir Lounge, a converted country club in the town of Uitgeest on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Ticket prices start at €18 but the budget tickets have already gone; currently the cheapest advance admission price is €43.
The party is preceded on the same (Saturday) evening by a fetish dinner which will also be hosted at Boudoir Lounge, and which has a separate dresscode to inspire those who like the idea of changing outfits between the two events.
The dinner was instigated last November, partly to provide a backdrop for Dominatrix’s recently-launched fetish awards, in which models compete for Miss Fetish Europe and two runners-up titles plus the newly introduced Best Up and Coming Model award.
These titles went in 2102 to, respectively, Sister Sinister from Sweden, Kay Morgan from France, Ophelia Overdose from Germany and Onna Sakura, also from Germany.

Although March’s dinner will not feature any awards (as they’re given annually each November), it should see the appearance of the current title-holders, some of whom may even be part of the cabaret show laid on for diners.
Price for the multi-course meal and cabaret (but excluding drinks) has been kept at €47.50 per person — good value compared with similar events elsewhere.
March’s menu includes such items as carpaccio, smoked Scottish salmon filled with Dutch shrimp in a creamy whisky sauce, eastern chicken, ribeye beef, Norwegian salmon, wokked shrimp in spicy Spanish sauce, and a variety of vegetarian dishes including vegetarian wraps, sambal goring beans, vegetarian quiche and mozzarella salad.
When the dinner was launched in November, it was held at the event’s nearby partner hotel, the Van der Valk Akersloot. And fetish dining or no, the Van der Valk is undoubtedly the place to stay if you need overnight accommodation to attend the Dominatrix weekend.
A showcase hotel for the Van der Valk chain, it has large, well-appointed rooms and other four-star facilities that would be much more expensive in Amsterdam itself.
We were particularly taken with the minibar packs which you can purchase from reception when you check in (or at any time while you’re there) and use to stock the fridge in your room — great value at just €15 a pop.
The Dominatrix booking code (see sidebar on right) will get you a discount on the regular room rate while space is still available.
The hotel is close enough to the venue to make it possible, in theory, to walk there — though most people seem to prefer making the short journey by car or taxi (the hotel has ample free parking for car users).
The opening event of this Dutch weekend on Friday 8 is the Models’ Meet and Greet, a cocktail gathering with free admission if you’re holding a Dominatrix party ticket. As with the dinner, March’s Meet and Greet has been transferred to a space within the main party venue.
Dominatrix is a party aiming to be taken seriously as an international event, and judging from the last one, it is already well on the way. Though it is not (yet) a fully-fledged fetish weekend, it’s already big enough and vibrant enough to provide a substantial pervy reason for an Amsterdam city break.
If you are intent on making a weekend of it, Amsterdam centre is about half an hour by train from Uitgeest. But beware of the fully automated ticketing. The station’s ticket machines take only debit cards, not credit cards, and on our last visit, could not be persuaded to accept a non-Dutch card of any kind!
But that was a minor hiccup when you consider the fun to be had going to this event.
