Last few days of the Libidex summer sale

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

The Libidex Grand Summer Sale, which launched in early July with price reductions of 25 percent across the whole range, comes to an end this Bank Holiday Sunday.

The sale, which has been running simultaneously online and in the company’s Liberation store in London’s Covent Garden, will finish officially at 23.59 hours, UK time, on Sunday August 30.

The Sunday midnight finish allows customers one last day to snap up online bargains after Liberation closes for the weekend on Saturday.

Feterati Girls’ dance debut

Sunday, 15 August 2010

The Feterati Girls are a new London-based fetish dance troupe put together by fetish model, dancer and clubber Emma Alexa.

Described as “sophisticated, naughty, fun, cheeky, flirty fetishists” who aim to “put high energy fun back into the world of kink”, the troupe will make their very first public appearance at Festival of Sins’ big relaunch at London’s Den & Centro on October 9.

What makes this troupe different from other fetish dance ventures is that all the Feterati Girls are both models and trained dancers, skilled in various dance forms from en pointe ballet, tango and acrobatics to tap, street and freestyle.

They combine their love of dancing with fetish play and dressing up in their favourite latex outfits, and their shows will feature properly choreographed routines — something sadly missing from practically all existing fetish club dance performances.

When not performing on stage, they are — we’re told — likely to be found playing up on the dancefloor, tying each other to the dungeon equipment or enjoying an enlightening chat at the bar.

The current four-girl line-up consists of Emma Alexa with Ruby True, Vanth and Kimberlicious, each of whom, we’re promised, brings her own style to the troupe, stage and dancefloor.

And, says Emma, there is still the possibility of adding further members to the London-based troupe “if they can keep up with the naughtiness and bring extra entertainment to a party!”

The Feterati Girls have already added a US contingent in the person of South Beach-based Miss Miami, and in parallel with their London appearances, are now anticipating great things in Miami too.

Libidex launch German site

Sunday, 8 August 2010

A new German-language website has been launched by London latex label Libidex for customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Online since July 31, www.libidex.de is a partnership with Hans Telles of German latex label el-Conde. Hans will be operating the site for Libidex in Germany, handling orders and dealing direct with German-speaking customers.

German-speaking countries are Libidex’s second largest market after the UK, and the company believes the new site will make buying latex more convenient for customers in those countries.

They will be able to discuss their requirements in their own language with German-speaking staff, and will not have to pay the additional costs of postage from the UK, since all garments will be despatched from Libidex’s German centre.

The site carries full garment descriptions in German, with pictures, and there is an easy-to-use shopping cart system.

All prices are in Euros, and payment is accepted by bank transfer or credit card.

Prices are the equivalent of those advertised on the UK website, and at the moment both sites are discounting normal prices during the Libidex summer sale.

Judge bans further events at ‘notorious’ Rubber Ball venue

Monday, 2 August 2010

The owner of the London venue that hosted last December’s Skin Two Rubber Ball — and prompted an unusually high number complaints from guests — has been banned in the High Court from holding any more parties there.

Westminster Council took legal action against Edward Davenport, owner of the 18th Century mansion at 33 Portland Place, because it felt his neighbours were being disturbed to an "unacceptable degree".

The Council had won a temporary injunction in January against what it claimed were "persistent and flagrant" breaches of planning rules — including pole-dancing classes, a sex party, a “porn disco”, film shoots and a masquerade ball — at the private residence.

The High Court has now granted an order prohibiting such events. The judge, Mr Justice Eady, said: "The council has a duty to enforce planning control and there seems to be no alternative way of achieving this effectively without the grant of an injunction.”

Westminster's strategic director for built environment, Rosemarie MacQueen, said the injunction would ensure Mr Davenport's neighbours could "finally enjoy their home in some degree of peace, without being disturbed at all hours by the large-scale parties which have blighted the local area."

Disgruntled guests who attended December’s Rubber Ball at Portland Place posted an unprecedented number of complaints about the event on forums hosted by RubberPal and London Fetish Scene, and on network sites such as Facebook.

Partygoers who had paid up to £75 for an evening that included fashion shows by Naucler Design and Kaori’s Latex Dreams bemoaned, among other things, lack of prior information about the location of the “secret” venue, inept cloakroom management, overcrowding particularly on the stairs, and the high cost of drinks that the venue was apparently not licensed to sell.

There was even a forum post from associate company Skin Two North declaring its disappointment with the feedback on the London ball and reassuring people that it was “a separate events company from the organisers of the southern event”.

The Portland Place house, once the Sierra Leone High Commission, was at the centre of controversy over its parties well before the Rubber Ball, with various decadent events ensuring its notoriety on the London clubbing scene. But Skin Two owner Tim Woodward was apparently unaware of any potential problems when he agreed to the holding of the 2009 Rubber Ball there.

In a response to forum complaints, Woodward said he was “staggered to find on the night that the venue did not appear to have an alcohol licence — pretty much a basic essential for running a party, you'd think”.

His statement admitted there were “a host of other problems, from the bar prices through the cloakroom, inadequate lighting (half of the power was out), the couples' room not available to all couples, no signs with the event programme, etc, etc.”

Woodward’s surprise at the party’s seemingly numerous organisational failings has prompted questions about the extent to which the 2009 Rubber Ball was actually a Skin Two event. But in his statement, he explained:

“The event did have the Skin Two name, and so the complaints have been directed at me, which is fair enough. In 26 years of Skin Two events, that was the only one I would like to forget. You can be sure that we won't be dealing with that venue or that promoter again.”

Passive Arts venue fire and owner’s death lead to murder and arson charges

Friday, 30 July 2010

A man has been charged with murder following a fire which broke out on Tuesday morning at famous Los Angeles commercial dungeon and fetish party venue Passive Arts Studios.

Firefighters who attended the blaze at the building, on La Cienaga Boulevard in the city of Lennox, near LAX airport, found a man’s body in the ashes. The body was subsequently identified as that of Passive Arts owner John Lavine.

David Edward Albert, 53, was arrested at the scene by deputies from the LA County Sheriff’s Department after being found hiding in bushes across the road from the fire. Albert, who was bleeding, claimed to have been hit by a car, but the officers didn’t believe him.

Further investigation revealed that Albert was a former employee of Passive Arts who had allegedly been fired from the establishment only a week earlier. He quickly became the prime suspect for the murder of Lavine, who had been shot several times in the head.

Albert, of Simi Valley, was charged on Thursday with murder, arson and animal cruelty, the latter charge arising from the death of the studio owner's dog, which was also found after the fire.

Passive Arts Studios, described as America’s largest, most elegant and best-equipped dungeon, was about to celebrate the first phase of an ambitious expansion programme when the tragedy occurred.

Founded in Hollywood in 1974, it claims to have been the first commercial BDSM establishment in the USA to openly advertise its services. In 2000 it moved to the current 7,000 sq ft warehouse location in Lennox.

As well as offering BDSM sessions and opening its movie set-like interiors to various TV shows, the venue has played host to numerous community events featuring the likes of Midori and Fakir Musafar.

On Saturday nights, the venue has been regularly hosting three popular fetish clubs nights — Time Warp, Club Discipline and The Garden of Heathers.

This Saturday night (July 31), it was due to stage the grand opening of Passive Arts Emporium, “an upscale store featuring the finest furniture and toys available for sale”.

The Emporium was designed as part of a major expansion of Passive Arts following the acquisition of a 4,000 sq ft building next to the existing premises.

When finished, the expanded Passive Arts would have covered more than 11,000 sq ft with parking for over 60 cars, an enclosed patio and more than a dozen themed rooms.

Since Tuesday’s tragedy — the latest in a series that has hit the US BDSM community in recent weeks — the Passive Arts website has been temporarily closed, and the status of its MySpace page, though still online, has been changed from public to private.

Prong’s posture on new site

Friday, 9 July 2010

Prong Jewellery, London’s well-known fetish accessoriser, has unveiled its brand new website.

A far cry from the simple black and white shopping cart, the revamp will greet visitors with what Prong promises is “a sumptuous and seductive site” offering the brand’s full range.

Alongside the new-look web shop, there is also a range of new products, only just added. The new styles consist primarily of a distinctive collection of posture collars in which Gothic Lolita lace trims, buckles and padlocks, and full-on crystal bling are the order of the day.

"Prong jewellery really is the ultimate fetish accessory," says Lady Sedusa, Prong’s owner and head designer. “There is something to go with all the great latex designer labels. House of Harlot and Libidex have used Prong in their photo shoots to show a complete look, and both stores stock a selection of our products too."

Along with Prong Jewellery's own products, Prong is also the only place to shop for Scarlet Diva designs. “Prong teamed up with Marnie of Scarlet Diva some time ago. It's a pleasure to offer our customers the very best in fetish jewellery, and Scarlet Diva is a prized addition to our store," adds Lady Sedusa.

“In fact, within the next week we’re doing another shoot for a new range by Lizzie McQuade. You may not have heard of her yet, but get ready — her styles are already being featured in Vogue, and completely fit the Prong ideal.”

Signing up as a Prong Member earns customers a permanent five percent discount off all styles on the website, as well as benefits from sales and promotions throughout the year.

Photographer Packman dies

Monday, 28 June 2010

The Los Angeles fetish and BDSM community is mourning the death of Ila Packman, an artist and photographer whose work has chronicled the events and parties of the LA scene over the past few years.
Packman was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the victims of a high profile pair of robbery homicides at medical marijuana dispensaries on Thursday June 25. Packman, 39, was an employee at Hollywood Holistic store in the 1600 block of North El Centro Avenue.
From 2007 to the end of 2009, Packman was a regular photographer at Masque, Club Hell, The Bondage Ball and many other LA events. According to his ModelMayhem profile, he had a love of photography that started at the age of three.
Clearly something of a controversialist, Packman coined the slogan The answer to domestic violence is consensual domestic violence on a range of his own merchandise, sold through cafepress.com.
His business partner, Gaston, may be contacted through his website.
